loss.

What MACUGEN patients have said about their commitment to treatment:
Charlotte W. was nervous at first
about the injection procedure:
“I
was, of course, very apprehensive
about it. But it becomes easier for
me each time I go in. I am not as
apprehensive.”
“I was so grateful when I was able to
take MACUGEN!”
Ron M. says about the onset of disease:
“I noticed when I was working that my vision was getting a little blurry. When I was diagnosed, I had no idea how serious it was and how quickly one can lose his or her vision.”
Ron speaks about his treatment with
MACUGEN: “The timing was real fortunate,
MACUGEN was coming on the market.
I would walk barefoot from Phoenix to Tucson
if it meant keeping my vision.”

An International Patient Perspective
Jesse J., from Belgium, is a patient with wet AMD. He describes his experience with MACUGEN:
“I went to the Katholieke Universiteit
in Leuven,
Belgium, and met with Dr.Anita Leys, who told
me they were starting clinical trials on a new
drug for wet AMD called MACUGEN (pegaptanib
sodium injection). This would involve an injection
in the eye every six weeks for one year and, thereafter, one year of control and monitoring.
I agreed to take part.”
“The disease progression has now slowed (as I write this in May 2006), and the vision in my right eye has improved by 5%, which means I have a visual acuity level of 40%. It may not sound like much, but it means a hell of a lot to me.”
